About the company:

IREL stands for Indian Rare Earths Limited. This is a government owned corporation that comes under Mini ratna category A. Their company is based out of Mumbai in India. This was incorporated as a public limited company that started in the year 1950. Earlier it used to be jointly owned by the government of Travancore and the government of India. In 1963 the government of India took over the overall control of this Department of Atomic Energy. They incorporated this with the main intention of taking up commercial-scale processing of monazite sand at their main and first unit known as Rare Earths Division, located at Aluva, Kochi done for the recovery of Thorium metal. IREL has its largest division at Chattrapur, Odisha known as Orissa Sansd Complex. They operate their four units and a corporate office located at Mumbai. They produce and sell six heavy minerals, those are zircon, ilmenite, sillimanite, rutile, garnet and monazite. Their corporate research centre is situated at Kollam in the state of Kerala. This unit carries our research and development in the fields of various products such as beach sand minerals, and they undertake different consultancy projects on flow sheet development, mineral separation, carrying out mineral analysis, and also cater to the needs of various external and internal customers.
