Applicants can join Indian Navy through one of the mentioned modes or levels like entry through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which again has four different entry tests like Combined Defence Service Commission (CDSE), National Defence Academy of both Navy and Naval Academy, NCC. There is also a direct entry possible under permanent commission for entry at the undergraduate level with 10+2 qualification and graduate entry levels for sports, musician and law positions. There is an Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) for both Permanent commission and short service commission for graduate level entries. For the SSB procedure, candidates are assessed for a various officer like qualities like planning& organizing ability, social adaptability, social effectiveness and dynamic ability. SSB is conducted in 2 stages, of which stage 1 will be the intelligence test, picture perception and discussion test. Stage 2 will be psychological testing, group testing and interview.
For all the categories, a written test is mandatory other than direct entry. The entrance test will be a computer based written examination and candidate is required to obtain minimum 40% marks in all the sections. That is followed by an interview for applied designations either in Bangalore, Bhopal, Kolkata or Vishakhapatnam. Shortlisted candidates will be informed either through SMS or mail about the interview details like date and venue. The final merit list is based on both Entrance test marks (40%) and SSB interview (50%) weightage. Based on the medical test results final training list will be finalized based on the number of vacancies available in various cadres.
Job types/roles in NVS:
Indian Navy will recruit the candidates under three designations like Officer, Naval civilian and Sailor which again has different designations and responsibilities under each of these. Officer is again categorized as an executive, engineer, electrical, education and medical. Sailor is categorized as an executive, artificer apprentice, SSR, matric recruit, musicians and sports.
