About

The full form of NIS is National Institute of Siddha. This is an institute for research and studies of Siddha medicine. This was established by former union health minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss and then prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh inaugurated it during 2005 near Tambaram in Chennai, India. The institute is located at around 6 kilometers from the Chennai Airport and Tambaram Sanatorium Railway station is the nearest railway station just at a distance of 100 meters from the main campus. NIS is one among the eight national institutes that are being established across the country for research and training in the field of ‘Indian Medicine and Homeopathy education. This is guided by the department of Ayush, government of India. NIS is affiliated to the Dr. M.G.R Medical University which Tamil Nadu’s state government owned institution. This is also the national headquarters of the Central Counsil of Research in Siddha that is the private body for Siddha research.

This institute aims to provide their students with the best post graduate education in Siddha, by building a quality resource base and creating a team of eminent faculty members. They intend to make a curriculum that can integrate the benefits of traditional science and modern science. They undertake research that can enhance the acceptability of Siddha formulations and also authenticate their safety.
