The full form of AAU is Assam Agricultural University. This is the first institution in the whole of North Eastern region of its kind in India. Their main goal is to produce internationally competitive human resources in farm segment and to carry out various research activities in both frontier and conventional areas to optimize the production and also to disseminate the generated technologies as public goods to benefit the food producers or growers those are involved in this particular sector while emphasizing equity, sustainability and overall food security at household level.

The vision of AAU is to provide quality human resource to facilitate technology that leads agricultural renaissance rejuvenating and revitalizing post green revolution in agriculture that ensures both environment and production targeting a minimum of 4 percent agricultural growth while addressing the issues of household nutritional security, distress, commerce, farmers in agriculture as well as national, regional and worldwide food crisis by taking the benefit of market reforms, liberation and innovative technology. The mission of Assam Agricultural University is to fill up the gap for talent in the sectors of agriculture and related fields to preposition the state to fight with the developing challenges in agriculture and then certify that productivity upsurges in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, animal and fish crops on the face of ailing soil health, shrinking and uneven land holdings, lessening water resources and growing human population.
