The full form of ESIC is Employees State Insurance Corporation. ESIC is an integrated social security system that was tailored to provide social protection to the workers, their family and dependants, in contingencies such as maternity, sickness, disablement during employment injury or occupational hazard or death.
Employees under this scheme are entitled to all the medical facilities for them and their dependents. They are also eligible to get cash benefits in the case of specified contingencies resulting in the loss of earning capacity or loss of wages. Women employees would get an advantage during their maternity period for confinement. If an insured employee dies due to employment injury, their dependents will get a family pension.
