About:

The full form of BARC is Baba Atomic Research Centre. It is one of the most premier nuclear research centers in India. The headquarters of BARC is located in Trombay, Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is a multi-disciplinary facility with extraordinary infrastructure and equipment for advanced research and development. BARC covers the whole fields of nuclear science, various engineering fields, and such related areas.

Their core mandate is to obtain peaceful applications through nuclear energy, mainly for electricity and power generation. They manage all the facets from the theoretical design of reactors to the computerized simulation and modeling, development and testing and safe analysis of new reactor fuel materials for nuclear power generation. They also research the processing of spent fuel and the safe disposal of nuclear waste. BARC also focuses on areas such as applications for isotopes in industries, agriculture, medicine, etc. They have many research reactors all over the country.

Application Procedure:

For each position released by BARC, the mode of application is online. For almost all the posts, they release a detailed advertisement on the careers page of their BARC’s website. The link for applications would be given on their website. Payment should be made through online mode (if applicable). Check for your eligibility before proceeding with your application. Kindly verify if you fulfill all the eligibility criteria like education qualification expected and its stream, age limit, nationality, work experience if required, etc. Keep all your documents ready, and you are expected to upload photocopies of your supporting documents and a passport size photograph while applying.

Selection process:

The mode of selection for BARC varies with the type of post or the role. For posts like the scientific officer, the mode of recruitment is through personal interviews. They do the initial screening based on their eligibility and academic credentials. The final decision is based on the performance during the interview.

For stipendiary trainee positions, the mode of recruitment is through a written test comprising of 40 multiple-choice questions. They shortlist the candidates' qualifying the written test and interview for them on the same day. Final decision is purely based on the interview performance.

For some positions, the selection process occurs in 3 stages, initially the preliminary test, advanced test, and skills test. After stage I and stage II, they shortlist the candidates based on their performance in that tests and shortlisted applicants would be allowed to appear for stage iii.

Job types/roles:

There are many types of posts released by BARC. Some of the job roles released by them are stipendiary trainees, x-ray technician, pharmacist, nurses, dental hygienist and dental technician, CSSD technician on locus basis, pathology technician, medical or scientific officer in the grades B, C, D and E, nurses for various departments like nuclear medicine technologist, pathology, radiography, nuclear medicine, nuclear medicine technologist, etc., sub officers, stipendiary trainee as category I and II in various departments like computer operation, health physicist, laboratory technician , dental technician – hygienist. Scientist positions starting from grades B, C, D, E, F, etc.
