About
BBMP stands for ‘Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)’. This is the administrative body that is accountable for some infrastructural properties of the Greater Bengaluru metropolitan zone and public facilities. It is the 4th biggest Municipal Corporation in our country in an area of 741 square kilometres and that is being responsible for a population of over 6.8 million. The boundaries of BBMP have extended more than ten times over the last 6 decades.
The history of municipal governance in Bangalore dates back to the year 1862. After India got its independence the two municipal boards were combined to form the corporation of the city of Bangalore in the year 1949, under the act of Bangalore City Corporation. Their corporation was then consisted of around 50 electoral divisions and 70 elected representatives. During 1950 the first elections were held. Then the name of the council was changed from the Bangalore City Corporation to Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. During 1991 this got extended to 87 wards and then 100 wards in the year 1995. Currently their BBMP is divided into eight zones and each zone would have a zonal commissioner. The eight zones are Dasarahalli zone, Yelahanka zone, Bommanahalli zone, Rajarajeshwarinagar zone, West zone, South zone, East zone and Mahadevapura zone.
The roles and responsibilities of BBMP include the "orderly development of the city" meaning zoning and building regulations, hygiene, health, trade and education, licensing, as well as eminence of life matters such as public open space, parks, water bodies, and greenery.

Log on to BBMP’s official website and go to their recruitment. Find the notification you wish to apply for and go through the notification clearly and check for all the eligibility criteria they have mentioned in their advertisement, such as nationality restrictions, essential skills, education qualification, and the specialization required, maximum age limit, relevant work experience and nature of experience, etc. Read the job description to know the nature of appointment (if it is a temporary post or a permanent tenure). Most of the positions they mention in the advertisement would be for a tenure of one year. So check it before proceeding further. They generally open for walk in mode of interviews, so there is no need to submit any application form either online or through offline. Once you make sure that you fulfil all the eligibility criteria you can directly walk in to the interview with all the supporting documents. The recruitment is done based on the performance of the candidate during that interview, only if the candidate meets all the eligibility criteria mentioned in the notification. No travelling or dining allowance would be provided for attending the interview.
