About the university:

This university became functional in the year 2001. This was established by the act of parliament, number 8 of 2000. The university is situated at Aizawl which is the capital city of Mizoram. This is spread on an average area of 1000 acres on the outskirts of Aizawl. Earlier to this Mizoram University, the North Eastern Hill University used to be operating its campus in Mizoram. In the beginning, they started with seven different post graduation courses in Economics, English, Mizo, Education, Forestry, and Public Administration. Since its existence, for the past 17 years, it has made considerable progress in terms of academic programmes, support services, infrastructure and manpower. In the year 2019, this university was accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC. According to the NIRF rankings for three consecutive years of 2016, 2017 and 2018 under MHRD, this university was graded as one of the top 100 universities of our country.

Currently, they have 33 functioning academic departments that offer under graduate and post graduate degrees, Masters in Philosophy and doctorate programmes under eight schools of study. Mizoram University has one constituent college and thirty five affiliated colleges. This university is one of the pioneering universities in India that has successfully executed CBCS – Choice Based Credit System since the year 2013. In the last five years 277 Ph.D. degrees were awarded to their students in various disciplines. They have a total of 7434 citations were chronicled and also they have filed 20 patents for their distinct research outcomes. The faculty of Mizoram University has published over 1387 research papers in well known journals and more than nine hundred text books. They have full time faculty of over 208.
