The Suez Canal was opened during the year 1869 and this has led to the revolution of the maritime trade in the city of Mumbai. This has shifted the whole situation of exports and imports trade from the East coast towards the West. This later became the principal Gateway of India. The opening of Suez canal lead to the constitution of Bombay Port Trust as a Body Corporate in the year 1873.
Since its start, the Mumbai port has always been the main gateway to enter into our country and it has also played a key role in the growth of the national economy, trade and commerce and also most importantly the prosperity of Mumbai city. They have attained this position via their continuous efforts to aid the altering the needs of maritime trade. However traditionally designed to take care of general cargo, after these years, the port has improved to changing shipping trends and cargo packing from break bulk to unitization or palletisation and containerization. Also, they have also established specialised berths for handling of POL and several chemicals. Since decades this Mumbai Port has been the country’s most premier port. Application Procedure:
For most of the positions notified by them, the mode of application is through post or courier or by hand. There would be an application form along with their official notification. Selection process:
Most of the vacancies released by Mumbai port trust are on a temporary basis, they initially recruit the candidates on a short term or temporary contractual basis and they extend the duration of the job if the performance of the candidate is satisfactory. But they are not permanent posts.
