The full form of NCTE is National Council for Teacher Education. This is a statutory body of the government of India. Earlier during the years 1973, this was an advisory body for the state and central governments on all the matters relating to the teaching education, along with its secretariat in the department of teaching education of the national council of educational research and training. Regardless of their commendable work in the field of academics, they could not perform required regulatory functions, to safeguard maintenance of standards in teaching education and also preventing the proliferation of substandard teacher education institutions. The national policy on education of the year 1986 and the programme of action thereunder, visualised a national council for teacher education with statutory status and essential resources as a major step for refitting the system of teacher education.

So this NCTE as a legislative body came into existence in enactment of the national council for teacher education act of the year 1993 and came into existence during the year 1995. The main objective of NCTE is to achieve a coordinated and a planned development of the education system for teachers all over the country. A mandate is given to them and it is a brod one that covers the whole gamut of teacher education programmes that includes training and research of people for equipping them to teach senior secondary, secondary, primary and pre-primary students in schools as well as non-formal education, adult education, and correspondence education courses. The council have a list of function that they follow to ensure to make the committee work in the best possible way.

Application procedure

Visit the official website of NCTE and click on latest announcements and go to vacancies page. All the notifications of vacancies and latest updates for jobs would be mentioned there. So check for the application you would be interested in. The mode of application for all the posts advertised by all the posts advertised by NCTE is via online. Every applicant should have a valid email id and personal mobile number. First time registration has to be done by updating all the personal details, you would receive a login id and password. Login using those credentials and you can start with your application process. Fill up all the necessary details asked there and upload all the supporting documents required. Also upload photograph and signature images. Click on ‘Pre-View’ and check whether the details you uploaded are correct are not. Finally submit the application form.

Some of the posts require candidates to apply offline for posts under deputation.

Mode of selection

NCTE recruits candidates through face to face interviews. They screen the candidates from the received applications based on eligibility and competition. The selected candidates would be called to attend the interview on a specified date and time.
