NICED stands for National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases. It comes under the department of health research, ministry of health and family welfare, by govt of India. This institute was established during 1962, in Calcutta current Kolkata by Indian Council of Medical Research to work and research on control and prevention of cholera and other related diseases. During the year 1979, this institute was renamed as National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases and then WHO recognized their institute as ‘WHO Collaborative Centre for Research and Training on Diarrhoeal Diseases’ in the year 1980.

NICED perform research on severe diarrhoeal diseases of various etiologies and also on typhoid fever, infective hepatitis and HIV / AIDS allied epidemiological research and screening. The main aims of this Institute are to conduct research on these viruses in both basic and applied aspects. They also train health professionals for improved management and prevention of diarrhoeal diseases and for fast and precise diagnosis of the etiological agents. Epidemiological examinations of diarrhoeal diseases are carried out in different parts of India. Antisera against Vibrio cholera are raised in this Institute and supplied to several national and international laboratories. Their vision is to perform research to develop various strategies for prevention, treatment and control of infections and HIV or AIDS that’s threatening the nation’s health.

So to fulfill their vision they identify such infections and HIVE genotypes of national health priority. They also start appropriate multidisciplinary research in the fields of bacteriology, virology, immunology, epidemiology, parasitology, molecular biology, clinical medicine to improve the strategies for controlling, treating and preventing of these infections of HIV / AIDS. They also collaborate with different international and national scientists who are working with the same vision.

Mode of application and selection procedure

Most of the positions advertised by NICED are on a temporary basis. They are not permanent positions. Visit their official website and look for the notification you are interested in. They do not entertain any candidates not meeting their given eligibility.  For some positions like research assistants, JRF, SRF’s they recruit through walk in interviews. In such case applications need not to be submitted. Interested and eligible candidates can walk in directly to the venue and attend the interview.

In some cases they invite applications through email. So duly filled application form along with other supporting documents have to be sent to their email address. They screen and shortlist from the received applications. The shortlisted candidates would be called to attend face to face interview or online interview.
