About
The full form of NIS is National Institute of Siddha. This is an institute for research and studies of Siddha medicine. This was established by former union health minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss and then prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh inaugurated it during 2005 near Tambaram in Chennai, India. The institute is located at around 6 kilometers from the Chennai Airport and Tambaram Sanatorium Railway station is the nearest railway station just at a distance of 100 meters from the main campus. NIS is one among the eight national institutes that are being established across the country for research and training in the field of ‘Indian Medicine and Homeopathy education. This is guided by the department of Ayush, government of India. NIS is affiliated to the Dr. M.G.R Medical University which Tamil Nadu’s state government owned institution. This is also the national headquarters of the Central Counsil of Research in Siddha that is the private body for Siddha research.
This institute aims to provide their students with the best post graduate education in Siddha, by building a quality resource base and creating a team of eminent faculty members. They intend to make a curriculum that can integrate the benefits of traditional science and modern science. They undertake research that can enhance the acceptability of Siddha formulations and also authenticate their safety.
They have an eco-friendly campus with an exceptional man made pond inside the institutional premises as an initiative for water conservation measure. They have an idea to develop the hillock at the backside of their campus into a plantation of medicinal plants. This became a unique referral institute and also a centre of excellence for Siddha system of medicine.
Application Procedure and mode of selection:
Log on to their official website and go to their recruitment page. Find the notification you wish to apply for and go through the notification properly and check for all the eligibility criteria they have mentioned in their advertisement, such as nationality restrictions, essential skills, education qualification, and the specialization required, maximum age limit, relevant work experience and nature of experience, etc. Read the job description to know the nature of appointment (if it is a temporary post or on a permanent basis). Most of the positions they mention in the advertisement would be on a temporary basis. So check it before proceeding further. They generally open for walk in mode of interviews, so there is no need to submit any application form either online or through offline. Once you make sure that you fulfil all the eligibility criteria you can directly walk in to the interview with all the supporting documents. Fill up the application form given in their website and fill it completely and carry that application form at the time of interview. The recruitment is done based on the performance of the candidate during that interview, only if the candidate meets all the eligibility criteria mentioned in the notification. No travelling or dining allowance would be provided for attending the interview.
